Update: Slicing got nerfed. This doesn't work any more :(
Found on the swtor forums:
Just like with other MMOs gold or in this case "credits" will be of major importance.
So I'd like to share with you my method of making enough money during the beta, to buy everything I wanted. The way to get rich is of course through the right choice of professions (and some neat little detail, that most people overlook).
When creating your first character, you level as fast as possible, till you get your companion and get to choose your crew abilities. You choose: scavenging, bioanalytics
and slicing. No crafting ability!
Send your companion on slicing missions as often as possible, but use it during missions as well, to rapidly gain your ship and your second companion. Whenever you encounter robots or biological enemies, you harvest them, to gain skill ups in bioanalytics and scavenging. It is important, that you do this long enough, till you reach the appropriate level for the next zone.
After you got your second companion, start sending both on slicing missions for credit boxes. After you reach a skill level of 200+, the cash flow will increase dramatically.
You should also find a companion gift vendor, in order to buy some gifts for your crew. This will further improve the cash return from the slicing missions.
The components you harvested from scavenging and bioanalytics can be regularly sold at the galactic market for a nice profit. Always search for the components first and then put in yours for a slightly lower price. Or, if there are only few available already, just buy them off and put in yours at a higher price!
Now slicing should have reached a level, where your missions take up to several hours.
This is when you create your first "Twink" character on the same server. Repeat the whole process with your second character, while the crew of your first one is on slicing missions for money. After your second character has reached a sufficient enough slicing level, regularly send his crew on their way and you can start a third one and so on...
For me three characters where enough and I forfitted one of the gathering profession of the second and third char, for a crafting profession. Which now enabled me to create gear with my two twinks, while leveling my main, improving his farm skills, while I explored the universe. And in between I could log back to the twinks every few hours, to send their crew on slicing missions.
Hope that helps! :-)
